In 1990 he was contacted and asked to appear on the first series of ITVs "Stars in Their Eyes" where he won episode 2 as Chris de Burgh before going on to appear twice more on the show which has been broadcast and repeated worldwide.
"Where are my repeat fees?" he cries....
The show toured the UK with a select few and Chris appeared in theatres that his musical heroes had appeared in previously.
" I remember playing at Worthing Pavilion the night after Al Stewart of "Year of the Cat" fame had appeared, one of my all time favourite albums, I still have the vinyl...that was a real buzz for me to think I was appearing at the places the 'real' stars and my musical heroes had been"
Chris hadn't played in venues since the 90s apart from the very occasional 3 song acoustic set at 'Open Mic' nights and private parties for family & friends but in late 2023, having grown too tall for his hair, he decided to look for select local venues that may be interested in booking his soloing shenanigans

This was recorded at the old Granada TV studios in central Manchester in 1990 (sorry poor picture quality)
The original presenter was Leslie Crowther most people associate the show with Matthew Kelly who took over from Leslie after he was in a car accident and although he recovered he didn't appear on the show again.
"I liked Leslie he was very kind but I never did get my 'Crackerjack' pencil"
Leslie's Daughter, Caroline, was married to Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy fame and Leslie spoke affectionately about Phil who had died 4 years earlier aged 36
Each episode of "Stars in Their Eyes" took 3 days to produce with a live recording on the evening of the 3rd day..."yes we really did sing 'live' in front of a 'live' audience as they struggled to find another sort"
All this before YouTube and Facebook and when mobile phones looked like bricks.... that's if you could afford one
